4. Batman: Arkham City

As opposed to exploring a relatively small map in the form of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City provides something far more expansive. The city feels alive and breathing, with danger and mystery lurking around for Batman every corner, all while he tries to defeat the Joker and prevent all of Gotham from being poisoned in the main story.

The gadgets felt more polished and you truly had to utilize them each to their fullest if you wanted to get through the game in one piece. Moreover, they do a great job of making you feel like you are getting stronger as you obtain upgrades throughout the game.

In addition, you're able to both complete missions and free-roam as Catwoman, who has her own unique arsenal of tools and abilities, which only serves to make the game feel that much more varied.

The best thing about Arkham City, however, is the story. This game features an ensemble case of Batman's allies and adversaries with all the respective voice actors doing a great job.

However, none shined quite as bright as Mark Hamill's Joker. Prior to the film adaptation of The Killing Joke, Hamill had said that Arkham City would be his last time playing the iconic clown, and if he was going out, he was going out with a bang, right up until the character me his well deserved fate. This served as a brutally bittersweet end, to a brutally bittersweet story.

Few Batman tales are more complete than Arkham City.
