10 Video Game Sequels That Turned Wimps Into Total Badasses

5. Miles "Tails" Prower - Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 introduced a sidekick for Sega's legendary mascot by way of flying fox Miles "Tails" Prower, though he ultimately ends up seeming like little more than a desperate Sonic groupie.

Even ignoring his horribly punny name, he infuriated many players simply by getting in the way during boss battles and being a general nuisance. Not cool, Miles.

But Sonic 3 & Knuckles - a special version of the two games achieved by locking their cartridges together - allows Tails to become Super Tails by collecting a total of 14 Chaos Emeralds, acquiring seven from each game.

After the player then hoovers up 50 rings and jumps twice, Super Tails is activated, granting Tails invulnerability and the ability to move faster, fly further and jump higher, while using small yellow birds called Flickies to inflict more damage on nearby enemies.

That's quite an uptick from being a consolation prize for your little brother in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, no?
