10 Video Game Sequels We’d Totally Get Stupidly Excited About

8. Castlevania

Spyro the Dragon
Konami

Although Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was marred by plenty of issues, it was still fun, contained thrilling boss battles, and it had a beautiful gothic surface which showcased MercurySteam’s understanding of the Castlevania world. Lords of Shadow 2, however, was a regrettable leap backwards and a stake through the franchise’s heart.

Since Lords of Shadow 2, Castlevania has hid itself away in the deflating bouncy castle of Konami. Yet it has not been forgotten. Bloodborne’s H.P Lovecraft inspired locales had people making comparisons. And the Castlevania Netflix series has been a renewed success which devotees can sink their teeth into.

Konami are aware that there is a demand for a new game, but their reputation makes it difficult to trust anything that they say. It wouldn’t be too surprising if they announced a new Castlevania title, then later revealed in fine-print that it’s a shoddy mobile or pachinko machine game.

Still, if a new Castlevania was announced for current-gen consoles and PC, we would all be ecstatic. 2D? 3D? MercurySteam? It wouldn’t matter. Simply knowing that one of the most beloved and longest franchises is returning would be enough for us all to momentarily forgive Konami.
