9. The Wronged Woman - Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption, like most Rockstar games, isn't about being the good guy. However, when the player decides to do a good deed, the game could have the courtesy to reward you for it! Or, at least, it could avoid making you instantly regret it like it does in the side mission, "The Wronged Woman."
In this stranger encounter, John Marston comes across a weeping woman named Clara, who tells him that she's pregnant with the child of her ex-employer Harold. She was thrown out of his mansion by his wife when she discovered Harold was cheating on her.
At that point, John can try to help Clara by killing the man who wronged her and taking some money off his corpse to let her rent a place for her and her child.
Killing Harold might seem like the right thing to do, but when you visit his grave later on, you learn that his wife didn't really know Clara and that the girl tricked you into murdering him to get some quick cash.
So, in the end, you not only killed an innocent man and helped a con artist get away with stealing, you also did it for free.
Lesson learned, Rockstar. Never help people in need.
