10 Video Game Villains That Don't Say A Word
6. Lavos (Chrono Trigger)
Somewhat like Nihilus, Lavos is a parasite that exists only to feed.
Crashing to the earth in the stone age, Lavos lay mostly dormant, guiding the evolution of life so it could one day emerge to feed, like a farmer sewing and reaping their crops. Then it would reproduce, die, and its offspring would continue the cycle across other worlds.
In other words, Lavos was a tick. A giant, Lovecraftian tick from space who fed off the DNA of all living things.
The degree of Lavos's sentience has been a matter of debate since the game's release. Though Lavos itself never communicates in any apparent way, the game's secondary antagonist, Queen Zeal, seems to be able to communicate and understand the creature. At the very least, it was capable of following her commands.
But whatever its level of awareness, its mere presence lead to a series of events that caused the mass extinction of the Reptite race, the introduction of magic to the world, the complete obliteration of the kingdom of Zeal, a devastating war between humans and non-humans and, ultimately, the desolation of the entire planet. And those are just the bullet points.
Pretty impressive for a bug.
