Poison Ivy is one of Batman’s most dangerous and seductive enemies, an enhanced plant-human hybrid with supernatural control over plants, mind-controlling pheromones and a poisonous touch, whose eco-terrorist leanings frequently bring her into conflict with the Dark Knight.

So, when Scarecrow’s plan to kill Batman involves gassing all of Gotham with a deadly fear toxin, while Ivy doesn’t object to killing the Bat but she does object to every living plant in Gotham dying with him, hence why Batman finds her imprisoned at the beginning of the game.

It also why she helps him. It is Ivy who provides Batman with the means to neutralize the toxin, an ancient, dormant tree growing beneath Gotham, and when even the mighty tree is not enough, it is Ivy who pours every last scrap of her power into it, buying victory at the cost of her own life.

Self-sacrifice is not normally a quality associated with comic book supervillains, but in dying for her beloved plants, even if she cared nothing for Gotham itself, Ivy dies a hero, an act of rare selflessness that earns the respect of Batman himself.
