The story of Beatrix is the classic case of the honourable, duty-bound warrior who finds themselves shackled to a liege who does not share their knightly code.

Not that, in the beginning at least, you would call her conflicted.

When we meet her Beatrix is a proud, merciless and frighteningly skilled soldier, fully committed to the protection of the citizens of Alexandria, her queen, and the queen’s daughter. And she does some sterling work in their service: she consistently defeats the heroes, leads the victorious and ruthless conquest of Bermecia, and personally secures artefacts critical to the queen’s ambitions of controlling all of the Mist Continent.

But when the increasingly megalomanical queen threatens to, and then orders, the execution of the princess – her own daughter – and for no other reason than she is now considered expendable, Beatrix makes the only decision her code of honour allows – defy the tyrant and save the princess.

Joining the heroes she fights to topple the queen and undo the harm she has done, finding in them a cause worthy of her code and in the princess a monarch worthy of her loyalty.
