10 Video Game Villains Who Secretly Won

Not long after arriving in the Twin Peaks-inspired town of Bright Falls, famed author Alan Wake’s scenic vacation turns into a horror story when his wife mysteriously vanishes. As the game progresses, Wake discovers that she was taken by a shadowy entity known as The Dark Presence which resides in the depths of Cauldron Lake.

Armed with his trusty flashlight, it's up to Wake to rescue his wife from the Presence.

During the thrilling climax, Alan dives into the lake to reach the Dark Place where he successfully defeats the Presence and frees Alice from her captivity. As the townsfolk celebrate their festival, it looks like the writer saved the day.

However, an ominous shot of diner worker Rose amongst the revery shows that this ending isn't a happy one. With a now sinister-looking agent Nightingale looming in the shadows behind her, the ending indicates that the darkness still holds power over the town and is now using the agent as its new conduit.

And with Wake now trapped in the nightmarish Dark Place, the evil has been left unopposed.

Now that Alan Wake 2 is just around the corner, fans may finally see if the writer can defeat the darkness for good.
