10 Video Game Villains Who Were Right All Along

1. Haytham Kenway (Assassin's Creed III)

Assassin's Creed and the Assassin's Creed II era see the world exclusively through the eyes of Assassins. So when we step into the shoes of Assassin's Creed III's Haytham Kenway, a smooth talking and intelligent member of the aristocracy, we are all too ready to travel to the New World and go about delivering some bloody freedom.

Only it turns out Haytham is actually a Templar – the order bent on controlling mankind – and we've spent the first quarter of the game helping establish a solid Templar stranglehold on the New Colonies.

Yet, through our experience and tentative partnership with Haytham, he does all too good a job of exploring the moral dubiousness of the Assassin's Creed. In fact, despite being a Grand Master of the Templar Order, it was his long term ambition to reconcile the Assassins and the Templars under a single order, recognising a balance was needed between both creeds.

His arguments are strengthened by the consequences of the Assassins themselves – most notable in AC: Rogue, where we see how irresponsible and obsessed the Assassins can be, triggering numerous earthquakes to retrieve Pieces of Eden at the cost of innocent lives.
