In the main campaign, Ryder, aka The Voice, appears to be the primary antagonist. At first a voice of guidance on the island, as the survivors get closer and closer, Ryder begins making life difficult for them – urging them to abandon the prisoners who were helping them, and then stealing the vaccine from them.

The heroes confront Ryder on the roof, unleashing his zombified wife on him. After killing her he transforms himself into a monster, but the heroes ultimately prevail and escape.

Alas, it turns out Ryder was being manipulated all along by a terrorist named Kevin Charon. Charon had played both sides against each other, pretending to be Ryder over the comms network, while instructing Ryder to clear our the zombies with the promise of a vaccine for his wife.

After locking Charon up and getting hold of what he thinks is the vaccine, Ryder finds the survivors have already been turned against him.

Believing Ryder to be the one that betrayed them, the survivors unleash his undead wife. As he administers what he believes is the vaccine, he discovers too late it was an accelerated form of the zombie virus and becomes the endgame monster.
