10 Video Game Villains Who Won By Losing
9. Joker - Batman Arkham Knight
The rivalry of Batman and Joker is a tale as old as time.
The comics rarely show a scenario where the conflict is resolved. However, in the Batman Arkham games, you get to see what would happen if the caped crusader got to outlive his maniacal arch-nemesis.
And let's just say, it's clear that even though Batman stopped the Joker in the end, he sure as hell didn't win against him.
Batman: Arkham City ends on a somber note, with Batman walking out of the super prison with Joker's dead body in his arms.
Despite his best effort to uphold his values and save everyone regardless of their crimes, the Dark Knight has failed to save Gotham's clown prince from the disease that destroyed his body.
You'd think that despite the sadness of losing a life, Joker's death would be a net positive for Bruce, but in reality it's the opposite. In Arkham Knight, the villain's death weighs so heavily on Batman that he goes insane and starts seeing visions of the old foe (thanks to some remaining Joker toxin in his bloodstream, of course).
An end result that would've definitely amused the dearly departed terror of Gotham City, for sure.
