10 Video Game Villains Who Won By Losing
8. Darko Brevic - Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto IV sets a far more realistic and bleak atmosphere than all of the other entries in the series. And this fact is best showcased by how the title resolves Niko's conflict with his enemy number one, Darko Brevic.
Niko's story starts with him moving to America to flee from the horrors of war, but in reality Niko seeks to enact revenge on Darko, his ex-comrade who betrayed and killed his unit.
Throughout the course of the story, Niko murders and commits all sorts of atrocities to reach Darko. However, when he finally gets his hands on him, he quickly realizes that revenge isn't really a simple answer.
You see, at this point, Darko is just a junkie who regrets all of his life's choices. He admits that he killed his entire squad for a mere thousand dollars and that Niko would actually do him a favor if he shoots him.
Killing him is in fact just an empty gesture that will not only make Niko feel emptier and more anguished but also give Darko an easy way out.
Yes, ironically the only way Darko doesn't win this encounter is if Niko decides to abandon his quest for revenge and let him go.
