10 Video Game Villains You Didn't Want To Kill

5. Maiden Astraea - Demon’s Souls

Portal 2 Wheatley
From Software

In a similar way to Sans, Maiden Astraea from Demon’s Souls is difficult to want to kill because of her tragic circumstances. Astraea and her bodyguard Garl Vinland venture deep into the desolate Valley of Defilement in order to work to help the plague stricken and disease affected inhabitants.

There it is thought that Astraea, a saint of the church, learned the truth about her God’s existence, (or rather, lack thereof) and through grief and desperation she accepted the Soul of a Demon, essentially becoming one herself.

When the player, and the demon-slayer reaches her domain, she urges us to turn back, as there is nothing here for us to pillage or plunder. This is their home, and they have done nothing to hurt us, and yet we insist on barging in. The fight itself is incredibly simple. Make your way past her hulking bodyguard down into the plague-infected swamp and confront her.

Overcome with grief, she gives up and kills herself.

Take your precious Demon soul, you MONSTER.
