10 Video Game Weapons That Went Too Far

1. The Cerebral Bore - Turok 2

The Cerebral Bore was not only insane in design, but perhaps one of the most gruesome concepts in gaming ever. First appearing in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, the CB was in essence a grenade launcher firing small orbs.

The gun itself has a lock-on feature that sought out enemy brainwaves; once fired, the orbs track the enemy and latch onto the head. After which, the orb bores into the brain with a drill, expelling all matter of pixelated gore, before exploding and decapitating the victim. In some cases, the headless corpse continues to move around for a bit before falling.

It has its drawbacks, certainly. Fast enemies are tough to lock on to and it is slow to fire and reload. Enemies have to have brain activity to lock on, and it can't be used against bosses.

But, come on. Does that really matter? It's a portable brain drill. The weapon was so popular it was brought back for Turok: Rage Wars and Turok: Shadow of Oblivion, given new textures and lighting effects each time.

Twenty years later, it still makes an impression. Things like this are why parents and politicians were up in arms over gaming in the '90s.
