10 Video Games Accused Of Having Hidden Agendas

2. Super Mario Bros. Is Communist Propaganda

This one€™s particularly weird; essentially, Super Mario Bros. itself has been accused of being Communist propaganda. The theory is complex and somewhat convoluted, but it begins with Mario€™s colour design being majorly red, his hat being similar in shape and design to Stalin€™s, and his moustache, which he shares with nearly every major communist leader. Mario also started out life as a working class plumber, a proletariat trying to overthrow a King, similar to the way the communist party were attempting to overthrow Tsar Nicholas II. Additionally, at the end if each stage, Mario lowers a flag and raises one of his own; not only does his flag depict a red star, but the action itself mirrors the revolutionary qualities associated with the Communist party. It€™s a bit of a stretch, but this is one theory that a lot of people have taken very seriously over the years. A lot of it has to do with Japan€™s history with communism; the Japanese Communist Party was at the height of its political powers in the 1970s and 80s, which was also around the time Mario was first making his way into our hearts. Like I said, a stretch, but some people really take this stuff seriously.
