10 Video Games You Can't Explain Without Sounding Like A Psychopath

1. Hotline Miami

Good luck explaining: Why huge arching arterial sprays are so satisfying. For the top spot a game that€™s the perfect mix of blood splattered viscera and perfectly responsive controls, meaning that within minutes you'll easily have produced a canvas of decapitated bodies as you unravel a story so crazy it contains plot-revealing scene where a character€™s mind is literally blown. If that seems like minds-eye overload well, you ain€™t seen nothing yet! Hotline puts you in the shoes of a character who€™s become known by fans - and later the developer - as Jacket, a murderous psychopath who receives phone calls at his home, instructing him in coded messages to massacre varying types of criminals. Needless to say things only get weirder when you start to realise what€™s actually going on, but gameplay consists of old school arcade-style thrills as you€™ll dart through various locales at increasing speeds, dispatching goons in extremely violent ways using any number of implements from baseball bats and pipes to machetes and a range of firearms.
Not only that, sometimes enemies won€™t die in one hit and you€™ll have to dive on top of them to frantically bash their brains in with whatever you can find - something that received a genius touch in the PS4 re-release as the controller€™s speaker actually emits the splats as you thrust it downward in real time. Hotline is one of the finest games of all time, mechanically perfected and play-tested to death, it€™s older pixellated aesthetic may not be to everyone€™s tastes, but for the rest of us it€™s one giant neon-soaked romp that€™ll always be endlessly replayable. Which game€™s plots or core appeals would you have trouble explaining without getting a funny look? Let us know in the comments!
