10 Video Games Consoles Couldn't Handle
4. Starcraft 64
The next entry is a venerable franchise for its original platform. Starcraft defined the real-time strategy scene on PC and went on to become a full-on national sport in South Korea. As any elite player knows, it's vast array of tactics, units and play styles make it an incredibly complex title that sees newcomers completely stomped by their skilled opponents.
Strategy games have long been exclusive to PC. Attempting to circumvent the challenges of bringing an RTS to consoles is always a tough proposition. While the likes of Halo Wars and Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, did succeed, Starcraft was not so lucky.
An attempt to bring the PC strategy game to the Nintendo 64 failed when the controls translated poorly from a mouse and keyboard to a controller. The port came a year and a half after the original release in 2000 and quickly fell short of its superior predecessor. Despite gaining some critical recognition at the time, it was heavily watered down from the first release.
The system, with its cartridge format and weaker graphics, simply couldn't match the definitive experience and because of that, it remains the only console port of the franchise to this day and for good reason.
