10 Video Games Consoles Couldn't Handle
2. Crysis
Back in 2007, the PC was the leading platform for this powerhouse of a release. It was the early days of the seventh generation and with many developers still getting to grips with the PlayStation 3 in particular, the personal computer continued to barrel along and push the boundaries of graphical fidelity.
Crysis was the driving force behind upping the technical ante, the meme: "Can it run Crysis" becoming a popular discussion point among the community. Upon arrival it was intended to be ran on PCs from the future which surely bankrupted many an enthusiast in their attempts to run it. Across both showcases and its eventual release, much of its anticipation was built around it being the finest looking video game ever produced for the time.
They said it couldn't be done on consoles, but it would eventually be ported in 2011 to the PS3 and Xbox 360. More recently, it has even arrived on the Nintendo Switch, finally allowing users to run Crysis on the go. If nothing else, the game continues to show how industry technology advances.
No console version of Crysis looks anywhere near as good as the PC original, but for a time, its PC exclusivity was something developer Crytek would brag about.
