10 Video Games That Failed So Hard They Actually Won

8. Deadly Premonition

Japanese nutcase Hidetaka 'SWERY' Suehiro's second big project Deadly Premonition was finally the one that stuck with gamers the world over - even if it is hand-on-heart completely bonkers. Playing as Agent Morgan you'll initially be investigating mysterious cult-like murder out in the middle of nowhere, only for a mixture of Resident Evil 4's gunplay with some other crazier RPG-tinged characters to populate the world in the best way possible. It's incredibly hard to describe the appeal of DP, as for all intents and purposes it still plays like absolute garbage, but there's just so much effort put into every single aspect of the world and narrative that it led to guys like Destructoid giving it 10 out of 10 for their review. When you factor in that following the game's overseas reception, the North American release managed to knock both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Mass Effect 2 off the chart top-spot, this is one runaway success that we bet even SWERY didn't see coming.
