It could be argued that the Civ series needed a new direction. As much as it will steal hours upon hours of your life, Civ also suffers from symptoms of being stretched too thin. While each entry has been fun in its own unique way, we've come to be complacent with Civ. Never a good thing. Beyond Earth takes Civ to the far reaches of outer space. Fitting, since one of the famous keys to victory in Civ is to win your very own space race and blast off before your enemy does. But in Beyond Earth, it's taken to a whole new level of cool. As the defacto leader of the new world, you colonize a distant planet to serve as humanity's new home. From here, it's your job to create a new identity for your people and help them start anew. Details are scarce, but for strategy fans, Beyond Earth is an exciting new step for the beloved franchise. What is perhaps most exciting about Beyond Earth is that it truly is a revolution for the series. Though compared to another Sid Meier title, the timeless classic Alpha Centauri, Beyond Earth is about much more than simple nostalgia. It's about taking Civ into a brand new direction, and seeing where the series can evolve from here. Get your rockets fired up, world leaders. It's time to go somewhere bigger, somewhere beyond earth. But be absolutely certain that this barely covers the huge amount of amazing titles coming out this year. No doubt I've left off some incredible titles that need to be mentioned, so let's hear what you're most excited about for 2014.
