10 Video Games You Just Had To Play Through In One Sitting
2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
Easily the longest game on this list, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a hefty title to beat in one sitting, given that even experienced MGS fans will take around 17-18 hours to make their way through Snake's final adventure. Of course, over half of this time is accounted for by the customarily lengthy cut-scenes (which can at least be paused this time), with the game's ending sequence running roughly 90 minutes in length. But for any committed MGS nut, there was simply no choice but to cane the game in one sitting. One can only imagine how many picked up the game as early in the morning as possible on release day, and kept playing until completion in the early hours of the next morning (this author included). There was an added impetus to speed through MGS4, and that was because of the Internet's tendency to spoil any hugely-anticipated event as soon as possible. Gameplay videos began to leak out in the days before the game was released, and so many fans simply had to go "cold turkey" from the Internet until they'd played through the game for themselves. What's more, Kojima's cinematic style and over-the-top narrative was such that the game's numerous plot twists made it extremely difficult to find a decent break in the action to stop playing (though the irritating Europe section comes pretty close), and each new revelation simply made us even more eager to keep chipping away. A second playthrough, meanwhile, is a lot easier: skip the cut-scenes and even a newbie MGS player can beat the game in 5 or 6 hours.
