Bioshock is as close to gaming royalty as you can find - particularly in regards to modern games. Most gamers and critics have a preposterous propensity to adorn older games instead of applauding newer ones, so Bioshock's legacy is no small miracle.
The series has produced three excellent video games, and a shockingly great prequel novel. A new game in the series is in development, so we definitely have not heard the last of Bioshock and that's an exciting prospect. Even more exciting, perhaps, is the idea of where the IP could go beyond video games.
A long time ago legendary director Gore Verbinski was attached to a movie version of Bioshock. The movie never happened because it was said that the budget would have been enormous. Well, special effects have improved substantially, meaning an entirely underwater TV series is possible.
Bioshock would make for one of the most visually stunning shows ever made, and those who've never played the game would be floored by the story. If Netflix wanted to milk the series it should begin with the prequel novel and adapt it, ending with Rapture living and breathing in style, then begin the second season just like the first game; leaving viewers wandering, "What the hell happened?!"
