2. Pokémon Gold & Silver
Remember when we used to go outside and play games with our friends in person? Obviously, we all sat in silence and only ever moved if the ice cream van came round, but at least we were getting fresh air. Of course, we were all playing Pokémon (aside from a brief Yu-Gi-Oh stint). The series is still going strong today, with over 700 Pokémon. On that statistic alone, you can see how it's almost impossible to complete your Pokédex. Catching 150 (or 151, however you look at it) on the initial releases seemed hard enough. To help us along the way, we were encouraged by the ever patronising Professor Oak, with his casual reminders that simply catching a couple of Pokémon to beat the league wasn't good enough. Throw in an ill-motivated rival with a rude name and you're good to go. So here we are at Pokémon Gold and Silver, the second generation of Pokémon games. With the new generation came an extra 100 Pokémon, thus making the pursuit of 100% ever more difficult. Some gamers resorted to Xploder cartridges to speed up the process, but that's ill-mannered and a lie. A LIE I TELL YOU. With game-exclusive Pokémon also, we were encouraged to buy both copies (remember, we don't speak to our friends) and play through both games, trading back and forth whenever you came across a Delibird or Phanphy (I'm not ashamed to say I didn't even need to research that). Thus, what already looked like a Herculean task the first time around became almost impossible by the time of Pokémon's second generation.
