10 Video Games People Died Playing

8. EverQuest

Everquest Rain Of Fear 600x300 EverQuest became affectionately known as EverCrack among the internet community due to it possessing the ability to cut off players from their friends and family in order to pursue an online life of magic and swordplay. Shawn Woolley was one such EverQuest player from Wisconsin, who was diagnosed with ADD and epilepsy that were kept under control with medicine. Once Shawn got sucked into the depths of Norrath he quit his job, was evicted from his apartment and purchased a gun that his mother wasn't aware of. His mother noticed that Shawn would start to experience seizures once he played the game for long periods of time and sent him to a voluntary group home for addictive behaviour, which he signed himself out of. Shawn had his door closed and locked, which his mother crowbarred open to find her son slumped over the keyboard having committed suicide, the game was still running. His room was covered in notes regarding EverQuest details, and a suicide note, which referred to a betrayal or rejection from a character in the game Shawn pined after, with one of his characters named "ILUVEYOU" Shawn's mother Liz has successfully convinced the developers to implement a timer, so other gamers could limit themselves if they wish to do so in an attempt to curb another needless suicide.
