9. No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky is perhaps one of the finest examples of determination by a developer to turn a game around that's ever existed in the gaming industry.

When it was first revealed, No Man's Sky instantly went into hyperdrive. People loved the look of the game, and the prospect of exploring a procedurally-generated universe with countless options captured the minds of gamers everywhere.

Then it came out. The vanilla No Man's Sky experience was barebones to the maximum, and once you experienced the thill of blasting into space and visiting a couple of planets, you realised how little there was to actually do in the game.

Since that day, developer Hello Games has been constantly at work on updating No Man's Sky with new content. As it stands today in 2021, the game bears little resemblance to what first came out in 2016.

This is now a polished product with countless things to do in it, from making your own base to recruiting and riding ridiculous forms of procedurally-generated wildlife.

The team behind No Man's Sky deserves all the praise in the world for not giving up on their game, and now when people reference NMS, they tend to do so fondly rather than remembering its disastrous launch.
