5. Devil May Cry
It could be forgiven for its age, though some may still have expected more from the creators of the 'Resident Evil' franchise. The gameplay itself was widely praised for its contributions to the action genre, however such praise was certainly not going towards the voice acting. Devil May Cry features one scene in particular that has become infamous for its terrible voice acting. Near the end of the game, the protagonist - 'Dante' - believes that the character 'Trish' is dead. By this point Dante had become close to Trish and so he commences with a heartfelt monologue. At least, it might have been heartfelt, it might even have jerked a few tears amongst the more emotional players out there, but the performance given by Dante's voice actor completely changes the tone of the scene. Whilst some could also blame poor scriptwriting, it is the famous line "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with light" that accumulates the most laughs. The overly-serious tone of the voice and the cheesy line itself are enough to make the scene more comical than emotional, but it is the pronunciation of the word 'light' that puts the cherry on the cake. The word is screamed out, the voice of Dante breaking like that of a teenage boy, an echo added for effect. No matter how invested in the story you may be, the monologue will definitely prevent you from perceiving the scene as it was intended.
