10 Video Games Sega Should Be Releasing Instead Of Sonic
6. A NiGHTS Sequel
Frequently referred to as one of the most unique games ever created and a consistently high-ranking game in lists of the greatest platformers ever, NiGHTS is perhaps the greatest example of creativity that Sega was once known for. A Sega Saturn chart-topper, NiGHTS' puts the player in control of the game's titular character, a jester-like, asexual being that is born from dreams, and pits them against several stages (or dreams) of increasing difficulty where the sole aim is to collect as many blue 'Ideya' as possible before the time runs out. Collect enough, and you're taken to the end-of-stage boss. Fail, and you repeat the stage again. What sets NiGHTS apart from the rest in terms of platforming pedigree is not only it's unique visual style, but the way in which you traverse its world. Gameplay is dictated entirely by on-rails stages that can split into several different routes depending on certain trigger actions. This, coupled with the fixed camera that's present in the game make exploring its world painless, enjoyable and above all else, entertaining. A sequel for the Nintendo Wii, NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams was released in 2008, but received a lukewarm response, mainly due to the frustrating controls as a result of having to use the Wii controller to play it.
