10 Video Games Sega Should Be Releasing Instead Of Sonic
5. An Ecco The Dolphin Reboot
Aside from being proof that a videogame about something as abstract as a time travelling dolphin can be successful, Ecco The Dolphin was a damn good adventure game in its own right. Working on the premise that Earth's seas are subject to an eternal cycle where once every 500 years the oceans are wiped clean of life by an alien species, Ecco is left behind after his pod is abducted and sets out on a journey to rescue his friends and destroy the threat responsible for the harvesting of his homeland. As with many games of the 90s, Ecco is a side-scrolling adventurer, and it's also hard as nails. Dark Souls looks like a picnic in comparison. Its notorious difficulty at the time helped to propel Ecco above its counterparts, and if a sequel were to ever be released, Sega would be wise to keep the steep difficulty intact as a homage to the original game's fans. Various sequels were released after Ecco's first adventure, but they were never as well-received as the first outing.
