10 Video Games So Bad They Apologised

2. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

All publisher Rockstar Games and developer Grove Street Games had to do was modernize and unify the graphics and mechanics of these PS2 classics.

Given that the two companies have successfully worked together on past entries in the series – and that players’ hype was high – this should’ve been a walk in the park.

Instead, dozens of blunders (ranging from collision detection and mission completion gaffes to uglier character models and blinding rainfall effects) took all the fun out of the experience. Ironically, its rocky start forced Rockstar to pull it from their Windows Game Launcher while they worked on ”maintenance,” as well as relist the original PC version of the trilogy.

At the end of November 2021, Rockstar posted an update on forthcoming corrections that began just as you’d imagine:

Firstly, we want to sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games. . . . The updated versions . . . did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect. We have ongoing plans to . . . improve each game going forward.

True to their word, they’ve fixed over 100 bugs so far.
