10 Video Games So Good They Ruined Genres

And now for something a little different - a VR genre! If you've spent much time in virtual reality, you'll likely have played your share of third-person platformers, and let's be honest, most of them tend to blur together a little too eagerly.

But not Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. No way.

It's not an exaggeration to say, as many have, that PSVR exclusive Astro Bot is the VR medium's Mario 64 moment - it represents a rubicon being crossed, a game literally being changed, with the added dimension and interactivity creating a more tactile platforming experience than ever before.

Astro Bot is separated from other VR platformers for several reasons. First and foremost, it places a huge emphasis on the interactivity between yourself and the adorable titular hero, while the VR tracking is out of this world, and the level design isn't just "good for a VR game" - it'd be downright terrific for an actual Mario game.

Astro Bot may not be a particularly challenging title, but given that you'll probably spend a ton of time staring slack-jawed as you move your head around the gorgeous levels, that's probably for the best. If you haven't played it yet, find someone, anyone willing to let you give it a whirl.

Befriend a stranger if you really have to - it's that good.
