10 Video Games Stuck In Development Hell

4. Star Wars Battlefront 3

Oh Star Wars, you wonderfully contentious thing you. Our first and final trip down the ecstasy and anguish of the sci-fi series sees us stop at one of the more critically and commercially successful video game collections the Star Wars franchise has produced. Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 were first and third-person shooters heavily focused on the battles that took place within the Star Wars series, transporting the player from the frozen wastelands of Hoth to the Battle of Geonosis. With the gameplay emphasising the ability to capture territories on a map, the game was successful and never ceased to immerse the player with vehicles, characters and weapons from the Star Wars franchise. It was abundantly clear that the developers who created these games loved Star Wars, such was the attention to detail in level design, music and use of characters. Even today, despite the dated graphics the games are still imminently playable hence the hype surrounding a second sequel. The development process of Battlefront 3 has been a long and treacherous one. Originally being developed by Free Radical Design and naturally under the LucasArts name, the game for years was hinted, teased and ultimately shelved in a cost-cutting process by LucasArts executives. The game seemed dead and buried, destined to be merely a distant memory within the gaming consciousness. But alas, after Disney acquired everything Star Wars related, Battlefront 3 was back on under the developing powerhouse of EA. At E3 last year the game€™s planned release was confirmed and a date of 2015 set within the Star Wars universe. The juggernaut sci-fi franchise is yet again creating something fans are hotly anticipating. It is happening. We will be seeing Battlefront 3. We€™ve travelled to far down the rabbit hole to be denied anything else.
