10 Video Games Supposed To Release On Other Consoles

3. Mafia II

2K Games

After the original Mafia released to strong reviews and solid sales in 2002, work on the sequel began the very next year, with 2K Games planning for it to release on PS2 and Xbox.

Developer 2K Czech began development using a licensed game engine to speed up production, but in a cruel twist of fate, the developer of their original engine went out of business, forcing 2K Czech to come up with their own proprietary engine.

By 2005 there was little sense in developing the game for dated current-gen platforms, and so Mafia II shifted to release on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game wasn't actually in any sort of a playable state until 2007, and didn't hit stores for another three years in 2010.

Though a significant amount of content was cut to meet that date, and most critics agreed it was a step down from its predecessor, Mafia II nevertheless reviewed relatively well, and is due for a remastered release later this year.
