10 Video Games That Actually Taught Us Something Useful

5. Typing of the Dead - Typing

Surely this one doesn't need much explanation? Typing of the Dead might look like some bizarre Japanese knock-off of a classic game, but believe it, this game is a licensed spin-off title of superb light-gun shooter House of the Dead 2, in which instead of using a gun and firing bullets at the enemies, you type them to death by replicating increasingly difficult words - and then phrases, and then entire sentences - on your keyboard. It's an absolutely loony premise that really doesn't make much sense at all, but it's a great way to get your typing speed up, as it punishes accuracy in the most ultimate of ways - as you'll lose a life - and therefore it gets you used to typing things both promptly and accurately. Given how so many jobs require strong typing skills these days, it's certainly a lot more invigorating than some boring, corporate typing course programme!
