10 Video Games That Changed EVERYTHING When They Launched
1. Pong (1972)
The game that started it all. How can any other game in history claim to have changed more than the one that put everything else in motion?
Manufactured and released by Atari all the way back in 1972 and the first example of the classic arcade games of old, Pong is a sports themed game that could hardly be simpler to grasp with two paddles attempting to knock a small past eachother over and over again.
The first game to really highlight the potential of video gaming as a commercial pursuit and something that mainstream society could truly get behind, Pong's climb to the top began in a small tavern. As a direct alternative to the classic pinball and slot machines people were used to, Pong immediately proved its worth by outselling those dozens of times over.
As well as the groundbreaking gameplay and commercial viability, Pong also changed the landscape for what could be thrown in with a game. With various audio features included, and the basic scripts of the game being copied by plenty of other companies, this movement only sprouted up as a result of the game's success.
