10 Video Games That Changed The Gaming Industry In 2018
2. God Of War - Learning From And Reframing The Past
God of War, fresh from winning its well justified Game of the Year award at the VGAs 2018, is one of those titles that seems to have everyone feeling some kind of way. Ask someone that's new to the franchise and it's a badass action game with breathtaking visuals, and ask someone familiar and it's the attuned sequel that the franchise deserves, and ask our gaming editor (and a load of other industry nerds) and it's a hard comment on the gaming industry as it's grown and learned from its actions after God of War's first release.
This game is a spectacular, self-aware nose dive into the intricacies of violence and its effect on both ourselves and those around us, taking Kratos's previous actions and those of his son and turning them into something much larger than simply a playable narrative. We've had enough years of gaming to actually get to a proper point where this sort of commentary is both possible, and necessary, and God of War's confidence to step out there and portray that is spectacular to see.
Here's hoping such grand, eclipsing conversations can continuously be born from further releases in light of it.
