10 Video Games That Didn't Deserve Their Amazing Soundtracks

3. Sonic 3D Blast

Sonic Thing
Sega

Composer(s): Jun Senoue and Tatsuyuki Maeda.

Making his second appearance on this list, Sonic the Hedgehog is responsible for some of the greatest soundtracks in gaming history – and while his three dimensional outings have been less than exceptional – they always seem to deliver when it comes to music, regardless as to the quality of the actual games.

Sonic 3D Blast – released in 1986 – is no exception. In the game, players control the character in an isometric environment – which looks terrible – and rescue small birds in order to foil the nefarious plans of Doctor Robotnik, the camera perspective limiting the field of view, making the whole thing incredibly frustrating.

Regardless, the soundtrack will have you playing for hours. After all, the game – while certainly not anything to write home about – is hardly terrible, the music helping to elevate the entire experience immensely, making it vastly more enjoyable.

Interestingly, the SEGA Saturn version had an entirely different soundtrack - composed by ___ ___ - which is somehow even more inappropriate, despite the better sound quality. It's darker and more mature - which for an isometric platformer - is simply jarring.
