10 Video Games That Didn't Deserve Their Amazing Soundtracks
2. Lair
Composer(s): John Debney.
Lair – a mostly forgotten action-adventure game – had a tremendous amount of potential, what with it allowing players to pilot dragons, and use them to explore massive open-ended environments, and engage in epic battles. Ultimately, it was a critical and commercial failure, criticised for its awkward, impossible controls, yet praised somewhat for its sound design, art direction, graphics and soundtrack, all of which vastly outclassed the rest of the game.
In particular, the soundtrack was incredible, offering an inappropriate amount of excitement and variety, completely misrepresenting the boring combat system, frustrating controls and substandard flying mechanics.
Unfortunately, the soundtrack to Lair is yet another example of wasted creativity, seeing as how the game has been mostly forgotten, and rarely brought up in conversation ever since its original release.
Quite honesty, the composer deserved better – as did many of the others who worked on the project – as well as a better game to showcase their efforts, which have been sadly wasted.
