10 Video Games That Didn't End The Way Any Of Us Wanted

4. Firewatch

Potentially my most controversial entry on this list, plenty of people think Firewatch ended just how it should have. But I’m going out on a limb that if you arrived at that conclusion you did so after fielding some disappointment that the game didn’t end how you expected.

While games certainly don’t need to end as you’d expect, nor does any other kind of medium, 2016 adventure Firewatch has a touching narrative that draws you in and attaches you to its characters. So much so, that you want to see them get a happy ending. You play as a fire lookout who spends much of the game beginning and building a relationship with your supervisor, Delilah. Given you’ve just experienced a personal tragedy this slow friendship and connection is the most meaningful experience you have in the game.

At the end of the game you’re given an evacuation order due to a wildfire. It certainly seems like after all this time you’re going to meet Delilah.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t come to pass and the thriller mystery story that takes place hits a hard left and peters out. This wasn’t to everyone’s dismay as plenty of people have stood up for the ending in retrospect but I think a piece of most of us were hoping it would go a different way.
