10 Video Games That Didn't End The Way Any Of Us Wanted

3. Alone In The Dark (2008)

Alone in the Dark is a special case on this list because it’s one of the games we’re highlighting which can end in multiple different ways. But both of the ways it can end are bad, so, hope you’re prepared for that.

In what is technically the fifth Alone in the Dark video game made, this effort by Eden Games is laid out in episodes. You step into the shoes of paranormal investigator Edward Carnby who has amnesia because it’s a horror game and they always have amnesia. You survive an exorcism and meet up with an art dealer called Sarah Flores. In your efforts to get to the bottom of the mystery of your identity and predicament, you eventually find yourself in a spooky chamber where Lucifer is all set to wriggle back into a human body. That human body was looking primed to be yours before Sarah interjected and became possession target number one. At this juncture you’ve got two choices; kill Sarah so Lucifer possesses you instead, or let her live and watch her get full on possessed, after which the big bad mocks you for being alone and you say “I’m used to it” before skulking off.

It sounds so much like I’m joking, I had to double check this was the ending.
