10 Video Games That Died (Then Came Back Stronger Than Ever)

7. Street Fighter III

The original version of Street Fighter III was released in arcades in 1997 and then ported exclusively to the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, where it was met with a decidedly lukewarm response from fans, who criticised the roster's lack of iconic OG characters, unbalanced gameplay, and lackluster single-player offering.

Commercially the game was also a flop due to the only home release being on the Dreamcast - a depressingly doomed platform with a heavily limited install base.

Yet a year later, Capcom released Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, which addressed many player complaints and added five new fighters to the roster, most notably fan favourite Chun-Li.

Though initially only available on the Dreamcast, Capcom ported it to the PS2 and Xbox in 2004, ensuring most every Street Fighter fan could get their mitts on it.

Today Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike remains one of the series' most acclaimed entries, and far from the original release which seemed destined to be forgotten by time, 3rd Strike is now also available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You love to see it.
