6. God Of War - Burning A Sacrificial Lamb

The God Of War franchise has no qualms with making the player do morally questionable things, one aspect of this being its tendency to require sacrificial lambs. In God of War 3, for example, in order to solve one puzzle it was necessary to throw a half-naked woman into a bunch of years, killing her. Great.

One of the most well-known instances of this though comes in the first game, when in order to progress you must burn a soldier alive as he frantically tries to escape his cage, begging you not to. It’s even more upsetting seeing as when you first approach this trapped man, says how happy he is to see you and goes on as if you’re going to bust him out. He very much got the wrong end of the stick on that one.

His appeals to your humanity were redundant, because even as a player if you felt a little bad about it you couldn’t do anything to stop it. Telling him that “the Gods demand sacrifice from all of us” probably isn’t quite enough to make up for his horrible death - scorched by fiery streams as he cries out.
