10 Video Games That Forced You To Answer Impossible Questions
9. Spec Ops: The Line
Deep in enemy territory, the 33rd have rounded up a group of innocent civilians, as well as Agent Gould. Gould, a leader of the refugees has already saved your team on one occasion; he's also responsible for saving the lives of countless civilians from the merciless 33rd. Now that he has been captured, his interrogators are slowly killing their other prisoners in order to extract information, information that could prove vital.
The Decision: Do you attempt to save Agent Gould from his captors, thereby putting the civilians in the line of fire, or prioritise the lives of the civilians over Gould? In both cases, action must be taken; one option is a direct assault and the other is a more tactful offensive that minimises the risk of innocent causalities.
I suppose the decision really comes down to boldness or subtlety; in war, either could prove correct depending on the situation. Like many of the decisions throughout Spec Ops: The Line, neither choice will result in the desired outcome. It's not about trying to mediate a peaceful solution, but rather minimise the destructive consequences of whatever you do decide to do.
