10 Video Games That Fumbled AMAZING Premises

1. Redfall (2023)

Coming from Arkane Austin, the same studio behind acclaimed titles like Prey, Deathloop, and the Disnhonored series, Redfall is an online co-op looter shooter that sees groups of up to four players work together to defeat the vampires that have taken over the titular town. On paper, this sounded like a great idea, especially given the developer’s pedigree for worldbuilding and storytelling.

When Redfall launched, however, it became evident that this title fell short of what the studio was capable of. In addition to the plethora of bugs and performance issues that made this game borderline unplayable on release, the game simply wasn’t much fun to play.

The story lacked any sort of bite, the missions were as tediously repetitive as the moment-to-moment gunplay, and the loot system was a mess.

An even bigger disaster was that the intricate level design of the studio’s other games was nowhere to be seen. Aside from a few standout missions that gave players some leeway in how they approached objectives, this world felt as undead as the vampires plaguing it.

The most tragic part about this game is that Redfall will likely never meet its full potential following the studio's unexpected closure in May 2024.
