10 Video Games That Gave Iconic Characters The Endings They Deserved

4. Duke Nukem - Duke Nukem Forever

Kratos and Renegade Shepard may have been sleezeballs or psychopaths of the most well-written order, but Duke Nukem? The guy was a 90s joke made about 80s action heroes, somehow managing to last long enough and see the fabled Duke Nukem Forever finally get a release in 2011.

Naturally, Duke was dead on arrival as the game was slaughtered by critics and fans alike, yet the 'characterisation' of the steel-balled one actually managed to end pretty spectacular- well, aptly.

Not one to be out-whackied by Saints Row, Duke finishes his game by blowing away some gargantuan alien menace, dying, declaring he's not dead in a voice over as a black screen is all you see... and then running for President. As you do.

Honestly, for a character with such timely appeal and zerochance of longevity - yet who still has a tiny batch of cult followers who think he's hilarious - this was as good as it was going to get.
