10 Video Games That Got Really Good When You Stopped Playing

5. Pokemon Go

Battlefield 2042
Niantic

Niantic's mobile augmented reality game, Pokemon GO, took the world by storm. During the summer of 2016 it was hard to find anyone who wasn't playing this game. For a brief period of time, it felt everyone was doing the same thing: hunting for Pokemon.

But Pokemon GO burned bright and fast. Just as quickly as we all became obsessed, we all lost interest. The lack of content turned taking and holding gyms into a grind and without the social elements intrinsic to the series - trading and battling with other trainers in real time - the concept quickly lost steam.

Unfortunately, its popularity bogged down Niantic with enough work just trying to keep up demands like stability, bugs, cheaters, and liability from countless idiots getting themselves into trouble from ignoring their surroundings while playing.

But after an eventual stream of updates, Pokemon GO is better than ever. The amount of content has exploded, as have new features and fan requests. Shiny Pokemon, limited time events, exclusive offers - for those who still open the app as soon as they step outside, there's a lot to do. And while it still has a small and devoted community, it will never reach those previous heights again.
