10 Video Games That Got Terrible Reviews But Were Actually Great
6. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Lost Planet is a franchise we’ve not heard from since the last console generation. One of Capcom’s bigger franchises on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the third person shooter initially released in 2006, later becoming a trilogy and also seeing a 3DS spinoff.
Extreme Condition focused on the story of E.D.N. III, a fictional planet gripped in a brutal ice age. After the Earth becomes uninhabitable due to war and pollution, humanity plans to colonise the icy world under the orders of NEVEC, a mega-corporation now acting as the human government. Discovering it’s inhabited by an insectoid alien species called the Akrid, humanity loses the war and falls into a nomadic existence as snow pirates.
It released to mixed reception, with its story facing criticism for being convoluted and many took issue with the voice acting. Combat was a strong point however, being able to switch between on-foot travel or mechanized suits, known as Vital Suits. Suits were a lot of fun to control, being able to utilise heavy weaponry and Lost Planet presented a genuinely interesting enemy species.
