7. Street Fighter II

Street Fighter II has rightly gone down in history as one of the greatest fighting games ever made. It's also one that's been needlessly re-released with so many different titles it barely registers like the same game.

The original version launched in 1991 in arcades before jumping to PC and every console worth a damn in 1992, six in total for Europe including SNES, ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 (a version for Amstrad CPC was planned as well but never saw the light of day). It slowly dribbled out onto other systems over the years on Playstation, Xbox & Sega consoles, on top of Street Fighter compilation discs.

However, the story didn't end there as throughout the years it would be re-released multiple times with new titles, including new characters and features for more modern systems. The Champion Edition re-balanced the fighters for competitive play, Street Fighter II Turbo sped the game up and added new special moves.

And they just kept coming with Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Hyper Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, and at this point the words "Street Fighter" aren't looking like real words anymore but as of today, there's some kind of Street Fighter II on around 25 different platforms spanning 26 years.
