10 Video Games That Ignored PERFECT Endings
7. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015)
The cutscene climax of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Chapter 1 has a lot going for it. You've got the epic music, the image of the now defeated Sahelanthropus Metal Gear being brought to Mother Base, and the thrilling voice-over from Kaz. It all comes together to produce a goosebump-inducing moment that feels like a fitting conclusion to the story.
The only problem is that this is the end of Chapter 1, and there's one more to go. Needless to say, the second half fumbles it.
MSGV is a divisive game, but even its most ardent supporters agree that Chapter 2 is a significant disappointment. The game meanders through repetitive missions, leading to the incredibly divisive final plot twist, revealing that Venom Snake is not, in fact, Big Boss, but a medic turned doppelganger of him.
There, naturally, would have been plenty of lingering questions had the game finished in Chapter 1, but this ending still feels like a far more satisfying bow to tie on this troubled, yet brilliant, game.
