10 Video Games That Insult You For Losing

7. Unboxing - Crash Bandicoot

One of the best parts of the Crash Bandicoot series is how well Crash, or rather, his constant misfortunes, are animated. Every time you die, Crash suffers some kind of elaborate and cartoonishly gruesome fate, like being flattened into a walking pancake or sliced into two perfect halves.

However, the most violent and insulting form of punishment Crash suffers is the countdown of all the boxes you’ve missed at the end of each level. Instead of just giving you the number, the game counts each missed box individually – by throwing them on Crash’s head.

Each Crash Bandicoot player knows the almost visceral frustration of having to watch as their poor character gets bombarded with boxes just because they failed to collect them. The animation here is truly humiliating, as the more you fail, the more battered Crash gets. If you only missed a few, he might have a chance to walk out of this with a mild concussion, but if the number is more in the dozens, Crash will get bashed so badly that he won’t even be able to get up.

Okay, game, we get it! No need to beat a dead horse... or a bandicoot.
