10 Video Games That Insult You For Losing

One thing you can’t deny about the Metal Gear Solid series is that it always finds a way to surprise you. The most famous and most discussed example of this is the encounter with Psycho Mantis in the original Metal Gear, in which he reads the player’s console data and talks about the games you play.

There is also another thing Psycho Mantis is programmed to do that isn’t discussed nearly as much, probably because those who have experienced it are too ashamed to mention it.

On top of reading your memory card, Psycho Mantis can also comment on the player’s performance throughout the game. More specifically, he talks about the number of times you’ve saved your progress and, more interestingly, gives you a special snide remark for failing your missions one too many times.

If Psycho Mantis discovers you’ve died or alerted the guards more than 10 times throughout your campaign, he will give you a special insult, calling you “a careless man and a poor warrior.”

The line is already bad as is, but when you realize that simply not crossing the deaths and alerts threshold causes him to call you a “highly skilled warrior,” his words are especially insulting.
